Mark Moorleghen - President's Award 2005

Mark Moorleghen earned the BSCE in 1980 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

He worked as a projects structural engineer with INCA Engineers 1989-92, where his projects included structural design of University of Washington Boiler Plant Seismic Upgrade and Boiler 4 Replacement, METRO Renton Wastewater Treatment Plant Phase III Expansion, Mount Pinotubo Reclamation Dam Studies and the non-structural seismic upgrades at six regional METRO Bus Maintenance Base Facilities.

From 1993-1998 he worked with Chiyoda Corporation, where he generated construction documents for industrial projects in petrochemical and high-tech manufacturing facilities. Projects included Sulphur Export Unit for the LNG located in Qatar, Noltex food-grade plastics production facility at DuPont, Houston, TX, Photo-resist H-2 hazard chemical production plant in Sunnyvale, CA among others.

In 1998 Mark joined DCI Engineers, where he primarily leads structural engineering design activities on healthcare, industrial and senior housing projects. His projects include Multicare Covington Hospital and Water Treatment, Heat Recovery and Biodiesel projects for various Industrial clients. Mark served as the key structural engineer for the design of the 175-bed Swedish Issaquah Hospital.

His SEAW participation includes a term on the Board of Directors, service as a corresponding member of the SEAW Earthquake Engineering and Existing Buildings Committee, and chairing of the Professional Practices Exam Refresher Committee. A member of AISC, ASCE, and AWS, he served as a contributing author to EERI’s 2005 Scenario for a Magnitude 6.7 Earthquake on the Seattle Fault.
