Peter Somers - Engineer of the Year 2015, SEAW/Seattle President 2014, President's Award 2013, 2009, 2005, 2004

Peter Somers received his BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineering from Stanford University.

His professional experience, since 2000 as a Principal at Magnusson Klemencic Associates in Seattle, focuses on both new construction and renovations, primarily on the West Coast and in Hawaii. He leads MKA's Healthcare/Lab Specialist and Existing Building Specialist groups.

Peter joined SEAW in 2000 and began service on the Earthquake Engineering Committee that year. He chaired the Existing Buildings Committee beginning in 2008, and served as SEAW Seattle Director 2007-08. His professional involvement also includes the ASCE Rehabilitation Standards Committee and the NCSEA Existing Buildings Committee.

The President's Awards 2013 recognizes Peter's work with the Program Committee, organizing several dinner meetings attracting about 100 attendees in a new "home" venue at the Hotel Monaco.

In addition to his long and successful term of service on the SEAW Seattle Board, Peter also mentors younger engineers at Magnusson Klemencic Associates. He regularly shares his expertise with the engineering community at large by his presentations at SEAW Seismic Design Seminars in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007, and 2013, as well as at three ASCE 41-13 seminars.
