Tom Hicks graduated from Willamette University in Salem, OR, with a BA in Physics, and from Columbia University in the City of New York with a BA in Civil Engineering, both in 1989. He completed his MSCE in Civil Engineering at the University of Washington in 1991.

In 1991 Tom began working at AHBL, Inc., in Tacoma, becoming a Principal in 1999. Tom has worked on a wide variety of project types, including recreational facilities, civic structures, hospitals, educational facilities, military facilities, commercial office buildings, banks, and retail centers. He has demonstrated the ability to develop creative and cost effective designs by integrating different structural materials. Tom has worked on all phases of a project, from conceptual study through construction. He has contributed his expertise to numerous renovations, modernizations, seismic upgrades, and condition assessments as part of architects’ teams, and individually.
